There are many long weekends where I get stuck in my head and end up with zero motivation to do much of anything. I’m determined NOT to make this Labor Day weekend one of those….

First on the docket yesterday was to make a sourdough starter with my daughter. I’ve been making some really good pizza lately from scratch and now have gotten bit by the sourdough bug. So lets give this a try.

I used 50g dark rye flour, 50g of bread flour and 100g of tap water. I asked my daughter what to name it and she came up with “Barney”. When anyone accidentally burps loudly we call them Barney from The Simpsons, not that my daughter has ever even seen an episode. She didn’t realize just how perfect that name is for a sourdough starter! It will soon be a bubbling, gaseous culture we can use to make super tasty bread and pizza dough! Check it off the list!
